Comments The Silly Book

A collection of witty and humorous poems, pictures, jokes and riddles re-vamped from the baby boomer generation for current generations to enjoyThis book is hysterical. The simple pictures convey the silly messages and poems perfectly. The book is very lively and enjoyable for children and adults as well. The characters are revealed besides the poems and jokes which make them adorable. The point of view is to be silly and the author uses style to create the right mood.

Genre: PoetryRecommended Grade Level: Early PrimaryThis book is exactly what the title says- silly! It contains different styles of poems throughout the pages, but the two characters follow along throughout, reminding me of Mo Willems' Elephant and Piggie in "Hey, we're in a book!" I could definitely see myself using this book to teach about poetry in my future classroom, as it teaches different styles, but all are short and funny as well.

My kids would probably give this 5 stars. This is like the Monty Python of kids books (in our family at least); once we read it, all the kids were quoting it and laughing for days and days afterwards. And, like Monty Python quotes, it gets old fast for adults. Remember when someone could just say "Ni!" and everyone would double over laughing, but it's not quite so funny anymore? That's how I feel about this book. :-)

The cd was better then the book. I know it was suppose to be silly, but it was not fun silly, it was just plain silly. I shared it with my 8 yr old niece and she liked the cd better then just reading the book by itself also. It was silly to her also but she didn't really think it was to funny, just silly.

This is a book my mom read as a child. My Aunt showed it to me and it explains alot.

  • The Brothers

A truly silly book. Full of nonsense poems, songs, and stories.Illustrations are simple, but work in this format.

We checked this out from the library months ago, and the kids still quote from it.

  • Stacy Renee(LazyDayLit)

    A very silly book.

  • Helaine Becker

One of the first books I fell in love with. I read it over and over again when I was home sick, even slept with it under my pillow. I still like to sing the Boodleheimer song.

  • Brandy Gilbertson

Songs and Rhyming that are just plain silly.

  • Marta Boksenbaum

Cute, but I don't think it would work for a storyline, it's more of a lap book.

  • Christopher Russell

Still a scream - good for kids and adults.

  • Kerri

I've read this one with Belle numerous times.
