Different edition and cover. Mister Minky plots to eat Raggedy Ann's candy heart!Once my brother Steven helped me find a "magic" pebble, make a wish and--telling me what to wish for--later led me back to the same spot where--Lo and behold!--lay an array of penny candy. Can you imagine? I was mildly suspicious, but he was very persuasive. I looked for the magic pebble, hoping to replicate the experiment. Apparently I never found the right one.

Wonderful book for children many woodland creatures, fun and magic, and great life lessons. My favorite: "And when anyone tries to get out of a little bit of work which he has to do, or when he puts it off until some other time, then it seems as though the work which is put off grows and grows until it takes ever so much longer to do."

I did not really like the story line because it did not keep me engaged. I think students might like the conflict within the story as well as the animal characters.

The wishing pebble only works completely when you wish nice things for others. Minky learns to be nice too and they share from the lollipop garden and soda-water fountain.

Read this over and over and over again as a child (in the 80's). I need to look for a copy to share with my daughter!
