Let me make it clear: these books are TERRIBLE. The characters barely achieve two-dimensionality, let alone three-dimensionality. And yet there is something about these books that is so compelling that you just can't stop reading them. I don't know why. They're addictive, like crack. And somewhat less offensive than the Lorelle K. Hamilton oeuvre, so.

The Story line keeps getting more and more complicated!

Meh - a dialogue-heavy book in which the good guys all talk reasonably and sincerely about their world's problems, while the antagonists twirl their moustaches, makes for easy but fairly boring reading. When most of that dialogue is flat and the characterisations likewise, and the mechanics of the story's magical system are workmanlike at best… even though a tiny part of me *does* want to know what happens next (and therefore the book must have doing something right after all), I don't think I [...]

I enjoyed this book in the continuing story of the Blending. Just when you think they will be able to relax and rule as the Seated Blending, there are new conflicts that only they can overcome. The relationships between the different members of the Blending, still make twists and turns which keeps the book interesting. Since this is the first in the Blending Enthroned trilogy, it has left me with the desire to read the next book in the series. It's good that it has done that.

Sitting on a Uncomfortable ThroneAmongst numerous difficulties and attacks, the Chosen Blending becomes seated. After dealing with the capitol city they go on to face the invasion launched by the neighboring country which the Nobility had attacked prior. Everywhere there are major problems to be solved and people who are attempting to stop them. Yet they grow stronger.

Interesting. It's an "arm's length story" -- the action being distanced at arms' length, not drawing the reader in; you are told the story, not invited in to the story. In addition, the abrupt switching from first person to third and back is disconcerting. Never-the-less, I do want to explore the series further, if only to follow the concepts of the magic.

Nothing is ever simple for our Seated Highs. now that they rule the Empire they have made some changes, and need to poke their noses into the doings of their neighbours. while doing this, naturally the old Nobles of Gandistra that survived the purge are going to try and restore themselves to power.

I'm really not sure why I read this whole series really bothered me that each book was pretty much the exact same as the one right before it. When one character was going thru a certain problem it was like all the other ones were having to go thru it also but tweaked for there specific skill/magic. VERY PREDICTABLE!

Rebel forces? CheckOppressed society? CheckCorrupt ruling class? CheckMagically powers? CheckThis is like the dreams I have so I really enjoyed this first book. The world created is right up my alley and plays to my tastes. Love the team work and the underdog theme.

So, Bim's step mom gave him all these books and he thinks they are too girly So Jen, if you are interested I have most of them! Otherwise I will read them and let you know if they are any good. :)

Full review here:jamesgenrebooks/2Having read this before, I know how everything comes out, but I'd forgotten how much better the writing was this time around, other than GRRM levels of subplots.

Now that I'm six books into the series, I feel the need to complete the series. The thoughts are good; the plan is excellent. But it's so dull.
