This book is a great account of fifty different military leaders from the begining of time to more modern day. The book gives a brief three or four page summary about each leader and how they effected the world. This book was very interesting for me because I enjoy reading war and history books. My favorite leader that was spoken about is Julious Caesar. Caesar raged a great war with the Roman Army and used cunning and brutal tactics to defeat his enemies. I like to keep this book around incase [...]

Nice book that made me rethink a lot of commonly held conceptions of mine (so King Gustav got credit for all of Maurice of Nassau's ideas?!). Author has a distinct voice which is nice and he makes no bones about certain opinions he has or where he stands on issues, which I also like, even though I didn't always agree with him (I don't think Hitler was a military strategist of note--and he made more errors than just the Russian campaign). He is not a fan of McArthur, who I can't stand, so it's al [...]

I can't quite tell if this book was intended to be a "juvie" (it's not billed as such, but the writing struck me as rather simplistic and bland -- maybe that's just the author's style). The book is sort of a 30,000-foot view of the historical figures in question, and their impact on all of Man's subsequent history. In comparison with some other historical tomes, I found myself wanting more. On the flip side, Mr. Weir provides some insights that I have not gleaned from other texts -- e.g that by t [...]

A decent quick read, Weir first states he may have overloaded the book with Americans, but he is an Americans writing for Americans, so that would be why. That said, he doesn't have that many compared to other countries and does a good enough job writing up quick profiles. The book is far from perfect, with a few typoes and an additional resources section that lists entries. Weir also starts his final profile with a challenging insistance that the United States and its allies won the Korean War [...]

Talks about how these Men with all their capabilities shape and influence the world and how their actions affect the course of countries, empires, battles and of course of history. Napoleon,Alexander the Great,Julius Caesar and Genghis Khan are my favorites

Very nice summary of the 50 selected military leaders. I don't personally agree with the writer's views on about 1/10 of the people, but he does a good overall job of review. Lots of grammatical and editing errors throughout the book. Overall I give it a recommended.
