    I read this book which was published in 1958 when I was a young teenager in the late 1960s, and remember enjoying it very much. The book belonged to my mother, and no doubt she bought it when it was published. It is based on the author's own life, and as such, is a memoir. See a contemporary interview with the author at trovea/newspaper/art. It was a modern version of "We of the Never Never", ie a young city wife being plunged into life in the remote outback of Australia, and coping marvellously [...]

    Amusing and at times confronting account of a remote homestead. Written in 1958 it is an honest reflection of attitudes of the day. Not sure if it's autobiographical/memoir or fiction irrespective, it offers an insight into the life and times.
