I had put a short review on here from my phone, but wanted to expand on that (hate typing on an iPhone!).This book was hilarious good fun. If you've ever been a working mom, it will resonate, and maybe--just maybe--you won't feel so down on yourself for trying to "have it all" (which, now that I think of it, is such an insane concept, but I get it, I really do!). Orr gets the almost perfect stream-of-consciousness aspect that defines moms trying to keep the balance between family and career--how [...]

I received a review copyThis review is coming at a great time for me, as just the night prior to writing this I saw the movie BAD MOMS in theaters. The movie reminded me a lot of this book – how moms these days feel like they have to be Super Moms. They have to do it all, achieve it all, have it all, and make it look easy at the same time. “A Spoonful of Sugar” is a completely relatable yet refreshingly unpredictable chronicle of modern motherhood. It is smart, funny, fast-paced, and occasionally wacky -- much like the main character, who is desperately searching for a little magic to help her keep it all together. Amanda Orr captures the simultaneously self-doubting yet also self-congratulatory internal monologue of today’s manic, need-to-do-it-all-want-to-be-it-all mom. With an appropriate but not over-played hat tip to Ma [...]

I absolutely loved this book! It's a fresh, witty and clever take on a topic that so many authors have tried to tackle - the daily struggles of the stressed out, type A, exhausted working mom. It's unpredictable and laugh-out-loud funny and I've recommended it to everyone I know. A great first novel by a terrific author!
