3.5 stars!I was a bit torn about this. I certainly loved Andrea. She loves sex and hooking up and she makes no apologies for it which I loved. However, the resolution felt a little rushed to me.

The moment I started reading Mina V. Esguerra's latest book, What You Wanted, I thought: I missed this. I've read some of Mina's Spotlight New Adult books and liked them enough, but there was something that felt like coming home when she's writing something based in Manila again. And it helped that I read and liked the prequel to this book, Wedding Night Stand, so I was pretty excited to have first dibs on this book.Andrea met Damon at her sister's wedding. It was just supposed to be a one- [...]

4.5/5.0I LOVED this story! Andrea and Damon are such a wonderful couple, the way they fell in love was so natural and honest, I really liked how open they were with each other, and how they didn't care about what other people said about them.I am trash for women like Andrea, she lives her life the way she wants, she's honest to herself and to other people as well, she choses to have an active love life and she doesn't think less of herself, or admit people to think she's less than great. I didn' [...]

This is actually my first Mina Esguerra’s book and hopefully not the last one either. I would really love to read some more because having to read a book with Philippines’ setting on it is a bit refreshing, the familiarity with the places as to the names somehow felt like home. The story is good, and as well as the characters. Full review on my blog soon.

"It's my life, that's all.I won't quit. I will see where this leads."What You Wanted follows the story of Julie's sister Andrea. In case you're not aware, Julie is the main character of Mina V. Esguerra's That Kind of Guy. While you don't need to read TKoG to understand What You Wanted, it let's readers get more in tune with Julie and Anton's presence in Andrea and Damon's story. Now back to Andrea and Damon. They met during Julie and Anton's wedding. There's a short story of that event, Wedding [...]

I received an ARC of this book from the author. This does not affect my opinion of the work.I'm not one to pick up a book with a hookup type of premise. I've never quite rooted for a heroine who slept around and then somehow found true love in that hot mess of first dates and random guys. It takes a lot for me to believe that. Thus it says a lot that I absolutely loved What You Wanted.I liked Andrea. She's not my kind of girl and I'm not what she'd call one of her people. But her frankness and h [...]

Reading a Mina Esguerra book that's set in the PH is like coming home. I didn't have to stretch my imagination to know exactly where the characters are, or what they're eating or doing. But this book is special in a way that it could have been morally conscious, but it was not. It was the take-it-or-leave, unapolegtic writing that got me hooked, as well as the strong characters, who might have been bait for judgment, but who couldn't care less what we thought. I especially like Andrea's motivati [...]

I have few issues with it, for one, the writing could use a lot of furnishing. Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. It was on point and short-lived experience.

Perfect mood setter for the week ahead. Better review next time, when I've gathered all my feels.

Not too long ago, I was also a female twenty-something working in an office in Manila so these books are fun for me to read because I can relate to them. They feel realistic, like the s [...]

Andrea and Damon are screwed up but I love them. No, really. What makes this book (and its companion novella Wedding Night Stand) so compelling to me is its portrayal of two people, who are smart, and flawed (and know just how flawed they are, because smarts), and get together in a less-than-ideal way--and yet find their own path to Happily Ever After. How they get there is well earned, and true to the characters, with no shortcuts or sappy, history-erasing Big Moments. So, so, so good. The writ [...]

Before anything else btw, it would totally help reading Wedding Night Stand before What You Wanted. (For context on how Damon and Andrea met. It is included in Summer Feels: a #romanceclass anthology. 😉)Review to come when I finally get my thoughts sorted out.

***ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.***Originally posted at b i n i b i n iONCE AGAIN, MINA V. ESGUERRA DELIVERED TO HER HOMEGROWN (AND INTERNATIONAL!) AUDIENCE AND MADE ME WANT MORE WITH WHAT YOU WANTED.What You Wanted is everything I never thought I would like. Maybe it’s because Damon and Andrea started on a weird footing with their one-night stand stuff on the wedding of Andrea’s sister. I was never a fan of that because it’s just too awkward but reading about it is an [...]

All I can say is, swoooon! I love how this is set in Makati, making it much easier for me to picture out everything. I loved the characters (um, except for Geraldine) and every. single. scene! I never wanted this book to end!!

What do you think, what do you care of my opinion, and how would you even know if I was lying? **Review originally posted on my blog**What You Wanted follows Damon and Andrea’s story after Wedding Night Stand. Don’t fret, you can still read this book without having to read Wedding Night Stand. Considered as a standalone, readers will still be able to understand the story of What You Wanted. I’ll be the living proof of that.Moving on to the story, I can say that Andrea is seen as someone who is always on the move. Afraid of being in a commitment, she loses the guy who would’ve want [...]

Another great romance class read. I really liked the dynamics at play here. What happens when the one night stand extends beyond that one night and also somehow turns into "fake dating" to make each person's respective target jealous? This premise is everything i didn't know i needed and wanted because Damon and Andrea were just so great together. Steamy, easy going, so much chemistry there that i wanted to (may have shouted it but no one around to confirm :P) scream at these two just forget Tha [...]

This was my second Mina V. Esguerra following Iris After the Incident. The same brisk tone. The same sharp twists and turns into forests of thought, and the same incisive dissection of acceptable social behavior and the cosmopolitan Filipina. I might've been wrong to read What You Wanted after Iris--despite claims that these books are meant to be stand-alone novels--because I came armed with information related to plot. But that's the thing, I guess? Don't you expect a happy ending when you come [...]

I read Wedding Night Stand and was intrigued at the way Damon and Andrea sort of "fell into" each other at the wedding, and was happy to see that their story continued on in this novella. Here Andrea and Damon find that their one night stand isn't quite over, and neither of them are as sure as they used to be about the people they wanted. I love the idea that it feels like a date that never wants to end, and neither character is inclined to let it. I don't know if it was written that way, but I [...]

I was initially kind of on the fence about this one (almost on the verge of putting it down, to be frank), since I couldn't get into the whole Andrea and Damon together thing. They came on a little too strong (at least, for me)—Andrea, with her wild spirit and go-getter attitude; Damon, with his great looks and affecting personality. Plus, their circumstances were something I had second thoughts subscribing to.But when I started to psyche myself up, thinking that these characters were real peo [...]

There was a lot about this book that I enjoyed, in particular the conflicts both Damon and Andrea were going through. I liked how realistic they were about not being able to get over a past-love that easily, even when you're with someone else. I saw the adulthood struggles as something I'd probably have to go through (very soon). My problem was not being able to understand why both Andrea and Damon remained in each other's lives after the one night stand, like what made them persistent and look s [...]

If I have a favorite Mina V. Esguerra book, it would be That Kind of Guy. I can definitely relate to Manang Julie! In What You Wanted, you get to read Andrea's story (Julie's sister!) I am not a fan of hookup stories, but What You Wanted proved that Andrea also has her own story to tell. She is not just Julie's sister. Mina was able to make me understand where Andrea's coming from. In the end, I rooted for her! I wanted her to have the happy ending she definitely deserves. Just a note: both book [...]

Andrea and Damon weren't the ideal love birds I would expect from an HAE story. No. They weren't really. Strange, but I loved the chemistry hovering between them. I never imagined myself being one in that kind of relationship, but this story had given me a second thought for just a while, just maybe. They had this give and take relationship. Everything was two-way. They understood each other, though it was rocky on the process, still as functioning adults of a decent society (I think). They made [...]

I first read Welcome to Envy Park then purchased this book then Wedding Night Stand, but read Wedding Night Stand first because What You Wanted is the continuation of Andrea and Damon's story--And I think this book is brilliant! Everything/ everyone in NV Park is. (Full review to follow on my blog.)

Started reading this and as I go through the first page, I was kilig all over. Andrea x Damon ❤❤❤ Even if other people forgot about it, I wouldn’t. No regrets, regardless. I thought about it. “I am too. One day at a time, right?” Damon nodded. “Good. We can make one day last a long time.” Yes, we could.

  • Kesh

Call me when we can already print and make live versions of book boyfriends because I want a Damon.

Yes, I'm rereading the story again. Haha
