Americans are notorious for their love affair with outlaws, and in my foolish youth, I was as smitten as anyone with Butch Casssidy and Sundance. I outgrew that. John L Monk did not. Worse, it isn't the fast-shooting, range-riding, Stetson-hatted men of old he glorifies; it's some petty, modern day guy who fancies himself an "uncommon" rather than a common thief. Still worse, Monk gives readers explicit and lurid details on how to break into a house and crack a safe.I was outraged and firmly res [...]

Maybe it's the bit of larceny in all of us that makes us like a thief who's good at heart. Could be we know too many people with legitimate occupations who are neither nice nor honorable. Whatever our motives, readers have to like John L Monk's newest character, Bo Mosley, an honorable thief, drawn with all of Monk's wit and ingenuity. You'll enjoy the odd family in Bo's background too, as well as the way Monk gets Bo in and out of trouble. I think we need to see more books featuring Bo and the [...]

Thief’s Odyssey by John L. Monk is a story of an unrepentant thief. Actually, he is a proud thief and has few qualms about his chosen profession. There is sort of a resignation and acceptance of the fact that he will eventually get caught, but perhaps not anytime soon. Bo is self-educated in the many disciplines that make up being a thief. He is a safecracker and finds entertainment in keeping models of safes in his house for practice. He is a burglar and thrills being in a house while owners [...]

John L. Monk blew me away with his first novel "Kick," and its sequel, "Fool's Ride," a high concept adventure tale full of wit, serial killers, fantastic twists, and sharp dialogue. I expected no less from "Thief's Odyssey" and Monk delivered! In beautifully written, but refreshingly straight forward prose, he crafts characters that are instantly related, likable, and fun.Monk flexes new muscles in this book that interweave some immensely personal relationships throughout his meticulous plottin [...]

Thief's Odyssey is a fun, engaging crime novel featuring Bo Mosley, a smart, sarcastic thief with a unique background.Bo, who has fancied himself a master thief for as long as he can remember, takes a job as a tech support rep as a way of locating potential victims. The gig has gone well, and he's set aside a nice stash for himself, when the woman who raised him surprises him with a request for help.Bo built his life as a loner, and that's the way he likes it. The request from the past pulls the [...]

It's been awhile since I've read a straight up mystery esque pop fiction title and boy was it fun. Bo our protagonist is a very affable guy. Yeah, you're going to worry about 'em. And yeah he's too smart for his own good and makes some dumb decisions, but he kinda can't help himself. So I say get the book and sit back and enjoy!

Good storyI enjoyed this look at the life of professional thief Bo and the description of the tradecraft he uses and the situations he gets into when trying to help out other people and his foster mother. An enjoyable read.

I read this book in two sittings. I really enjoyed the story(some of the language was quite bad, though)and I hope this is the beginning of a series. It was different and fast paced!

It was extremely very engaging and I enjoyed it but felt like the end ultimately fell short.
