I really enjoyed “Random Shootings” by Frank Drury, even though I wasn’t really expecting to (only because I don’t normally gravitate towards these types of books). But I thought it was excellently written (a few minor editing things but nothing too major) and kept my attention from the dramatic opening to the shocking finish. It is a quick read, one I finished in the course of two evenings. It was upsetting and disturbing at times, but I feel like that is exactly the point-- to really s [...]

just a heads up-when starting this book make sure you don’t have anywhere you need to be or anything you need to do because you won’t want to stop reading until you’ve finished it all!! Trust me on this! The book starts off with an unforgettable beginning and just keeps going. The characters of John and Brian (and the others) were genuine and believable, and I think what I liked the most about this book was just the overall feel the author managed to create where it felt intimate, like it [...]

This is an excellent novel that captured my attention from the beginning and never once let it go. Each scene was riveting, imaginative, and well crafted, and the characters were genuine and flawed, each with their story to tell and lesson to impart. The descriptions were good and kept to a minimum. There was no lull in the action…All in all a well-told story with a very powerful and relevant message that kept me eagerly glued to my kindle. Although there are some shocking and sad and tragic e [...]

wow, “Random Shootings” By Frank Drury was awesome! I haven’t read anything like that in a long time, and totally was not what I was expecting. For once it seemed like the characters were anything but the stock, ordinary typical hero/protag guys, but instead all had demons, motivations, secrets the fact that it all centered around the various ways that guns affect different elements of society, and how it all hurts us, it was impressive how the stories came together to create a fresh-feeli [...]

A compelling read, and one that will definitely take you by surprise and make you think, even long after you’ve finished reading it. Frank Drury infuses a unique blend of family, drama, angst, emotions, and shocking twists. The story itself was fairly even-paced, but I thought the beginning was a bit slow until things started to pick up and once it got going the various plotlines all flowed well forward nicely, sparing us of the dreaded “telling” that so many authors tend to do. We feel li [...]

this is a fast paced book that has a lot of action and violence (it is about shootings, after all), but it’s not over the top or gratuitous. There’s no titillating gore, as it is all part of a larger message and storyline that is both important and also relevant in the world we live in. America is very much a gun culture and is deeply divided on the issue. It’s rare that a book can so poignantly capture the whole landscape of the issue at hand, and also put in into context with the emotion [...]

this is an interesting book that talks about an important subject that is pretty controversial in America, guns, gun violence, and the effects that gun incidents have on families and society at large. I liked the fast pace of this story and there is always something interesting happening. Like the title suggests, there are many ‘random’ (and not so random) shootings that happen throughout the course of this book. It’s isn’t graphic, however, and even though it’s a disturbing subject I [...]

Wow, what a sad, and tragic book, but at the same time it’s so true and necessary! You can’t turn on the news this day and age without hearing about someone being shot and killed, but rarely do we ever go deeper than that and really get to know the people behind the story, like we do here in this book. Thanks to Mr. Drury for writing such a compelling novel that shows us a ‘behind the scenes’ look at what gun violence can do to the average person. Also, it should be notes that while this [...]

this is the first book I’ve read from this author Frank Drury, but I enjoyed it very much (even though it’s actually pretty depressing) and I’ll read more of his books now. I like his writing style, it flows nicely and is easy to get lost in. As the story unravels we keep seeing more and more about how guns in our society can cause so much crazy damage and we don’t even really think about it unless it’s on the news, but even then we soon forget. I like that this author wasn’t preachy [...]

this is a really good book that is about a topical and important subject: gun violence and the fallout that it causes. This book “Random Shootings” by author Frank Drury focuses on a family in crisis after a shooting, and how that leads to a chain of events that changes everything. It is a very good book and kept my attention the whole time. I think it’s an important read because it shows both sides of the issue as well. Well written and good descriptions.
