About Author:

M.D. Curzon

I grew up in the UK and NZ and now live in Australia, where I am an active board member of the Sydney Writers Room Travelling is an essential part of my life and I am interested in all that is new to me I love writing, and I guess my degree in philosophy helps me to justify why I didn t choose a sensible career Anticipation is my first completed novel and is, I hope, an accessible work of literary fiction My protagonist is a young woman in search of her place in the world Having suffered rejection, K s story draws on a number of spiritual and aesthetic dispositions in a journey that is ultimately one of optimism and self determination The novel is divided into three books , each of which represents a dimension of the relationship between anticipation and actuality I hope that Anticipation succeeds in provoking some philosophical thought whilst also being a page turner of a story, with a reflexive and rewarding conclusion I have also published a compilation of poems, entitled Introverse and a book of short stories under the title Imaginary Friends Imaginary Friends includes the title story and a dozen others, from the experimental juvenilia of Space Stations and Weather Balloons through to the highly refined One Thing in Light of Another These diverse stories were written over a number of years but are now available for the first time in anthology form.I am currently ghostwriting a memoir and slowly working on my second novel, High Violence. Please feel free to visit my author page at author mdcurzon or contact me through my website at mdcurzon

Anticipation - Book One follows K, a young woman contemplating the direction her life has taken her. At the beginning of the novel she is wrestling with dissatisfaction, eager to latch onto a form of escape or at least something that hints at a path that differs from her own. At the heart of the book is the strained relationship that she has with her mother. This is the most compelling narrative thread in the book, and I was anxious for it to be expanded upon. As this short novel is the first in [...]

This book is clearly faultless, deserves a full five stars and much much praise. If I was to draw a cinematic parallel to express my reading experience,it would be the subtext of a Jim Jarmusch film or a French art film. The central question here, the philosophical question which is often employed is where the actual value lies: whether it is the journey to mythological Ithaca that matters more than the actual arrival. Is it anticipation that matters more than actuality, or the reverse? The questio [...]

Anticipation' (Book 1) by MD Curzon is an intriguing work. The author describes it as a novel written to inspire philosophical thought. The story follows the fortunes of K, a young woman who feels trapped and disappointed by her life. She lives with her alcoholic mother, once a famous writer and columnist, now simply a sad and lonely old woman without a career. K has a rather fractious love/hate relationship with her. K feels trapped in her dead end life and dead end job in a hostess bar. She has [...]
