Delightful! This is a story about witches and trolls and dragons and it's perfect for young readers or, in particular, for read-aloud. The story comes to life through the author's words. Her descriptions of the Human world as seen by the witch who lives in Creaturica(clever name) is wonderfully done. How would you describe a car if you didn't know what one was? Or a stoplight? I purchased this book at Christmas in hopes that I would get back into the habit of reading. It was a surprising treat (as it is actually a kids book). Being an artist, I was delighted at the visuals Bess's book introduced to my imagination. The narrative has the flavor of a fairytale, but has a delicious current vibe that all ages would enjoy. Although this book is in the category for young readers, (I would say middle school), It's a fast read and holds ones interest. The ending was not expected. The reader will want to read the next book assuming it's a series with the same characters. I found it a bit confusing knowing who each were. Perhaps a character list might have helped. I recommend it to a young youth for light reading.
