Vanity, pride--a person can pay a steep price for them, not that the particular person realizes it. People with pride tend to be too fully absorbed in themselves to realize the cost they are paying. That is the point the author of this short story seems to be conveying. The main character never realizes the price she has paid, being too fully absorbed in herself. The story itself was good but I wish there was a bit more of a back story to the characters.

This was a strange story, but I liked it. It was very magical/ethereal. I wish it was longer, though. I feel like it could have stretched out a bit and given more of a back story on the characters.
