In the midst of the sea of overly-sentimental women's literature, it's refreshing to read about someone as real as Pauline: truly just a woman figuring out her next step while trying to keep her kids, husband, and emotions in check. Mark my words, you will laugh yourself silly.

Pauline is ex-Army, spends her spare time on a Hockey team and still manages to be a wife and mother. The author has a wicked sense of humor that'll leave you in stitches. If your not laughing at Pauline your shaking your head thinking "the poor woman". Lots of fun.

Originally reviewed at Novel EscapesSomething about the perils of Pauline really appealed to me. I didn’t find the writing style to be “typical” chick lit and yet the story definitely followed some aspects of the genre I love. I am always pleased to discover a new voice that I relate to and this author made me laugh with her characters and the writing style both.Sometimes I felt as if I was Pauline and stuck in the chaotic thought pattern most mothers have, between the children and the hou [...]

Note: Review copy provided by Astor + Blue in exchange for an honest reviewHello March! Now that it has been 3 months into the year, how's your reading experience going so far? Toppled that TBR pile yet? I know I haven't! Hehehe.I actually felt a little misled after I finished The Perils of Pauline because I was expecting it to be slapstick comedic filled with lots of belly laughs, the way I did when I read Collette Yvonne's guest post. Sadly, the book didn't seem as hilarious as I thought it wo [...]

I received The Perils of Pauline, by Collette Yvonne, in a Giveaway. I would normally pass right over this sort of book (I'm not into Chick Lit), but the description screamed "edgy" and "funny" - not "vapid" and "romance-y."The Perils of Pauline is the second novel by Collette Yvonne. It follows Pauline Parril, an intrepid every-woman, as her "perfect life" is turned upside down in every way. An ex-army veteran, she uses her military mindset to navigate through job loss, financial uncertainty, [...]

The Perils of Pauline by Collette Yvonne will touch the heart of every mother and wife who reads it. I did not think the book was slap-stick funny, but I enjoyed it immensely. We are introduced to Pauline as she is terminated from her job and begins to loose control of her marriage. We catch a glimpse of a woman with determination and guts. Being as ex-army veteran proves she can navigate tough situations. She makes the decision to go back to college and finish her degree only to fall for her ha [...]

I loved "The Perils of Pauline" by Collette Yvonne. Pauline is a career woman, ex-army vet, wife, and mother who thought she had it all until she loses her job, thinks her husband is cheating on her, and has to rebuild her life. I was expecting just your usual run-of-the-mill chick-lit novel that I generally read in bed a few minutes to help me sleep, but this was not the case. It was a "can't put down" read that was fast paced, and had both drama and comedy.Collette Yvonne has quite the comedic [...]

Pauline loses her job and from there has to find a new path. She has to deal with a rocky relationship with her husband, her 3 kids, and everything mostly on her own.I have to say I enjoyed this book. It really was a funny read most of the time. I'm a stay at home mom and so I can definitely relate to her day to day life and all the hectic stuff that happens to her. It depicts the day to day life of a mom to the T.I have to say I feel for her. It seems that no matter what something around her is [...]

She also plays ice hockey and is in the midst of a crisis. What should she do now that she is unemployed, dissatisfied with her chaotic life and she is considering her options. Get another job, go to school, have a fling, leave her husbande list goes on. The book is an easy read but I did feel it dragged in several places. Thi [...]

NOTE **I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review**At first, I had a hard time relating to Pauline, an ex-military, hockey playing mom on her second marriage. I also had trouble feeling sorry for her since it seemed to me that most of Pauline's perils were, in fact, brought on by her own poor judgement. She grew on me, however, and I soon found myself hoping that everything would work out for her in the end. I couldn't help but laugh both with and at her. This was a [...]

Thought Queen of Cups was hilarious but found this sequel to be indulgent and boring. Too bad as I know the author and wanted this to be another success. bookcrossing/journal/1

Pauline answers the question - is the grass really greener on the other side? Fun roller coaster of a read.
