Comments Bound to the Highlander

I was looking forward to reading this book but it didn't come up to expectations. The heroine was irritating and I couldn't warm to her. It was getting boring as I progressed through the book. Not one I would recommend. It is a shame as it had promise. I have to warm to the lead characters and this just wasn't happening.

  • Claudia

I liked it well enough and although their falling in love was quite quick and a bit unexpected I loved how It developed. Especially James devotion at the end was very romantic. I would have liked to see more of his POV at the end though

If you like your highland romances with a good dose of political intrigue, historical realism, and a smokin' hot hero, then Bound to the Highlander is for you. This is Kate Robbins' debut novel, and it is a fantastic read. The first in Robbins’ Highland Chiefs series, this novel delves into the heart of James MacIntosh, head of his clan and ally with the new Scottish King. Aileana Chattan discovers she’d bound to this Laird, and it’s not a bond she’s looking forward to since she is not a [...]

I loved this book. I was originally attached to the cover as I am also a Mackintosh ;)The story is about Aileana Chattan, brought up by her Uncle after loosing her parents, always thinking she would be married to her Cousin Gwain, but on her Uncles death she finds out he has made a pact with a neighbouring Chief James Mackintosh. James Mackintosh is a typical Scotsman and Alpha male a brilliant character thought the book. To make things worse the only one who can break the pact is the King. With [...]

I enjoyed this story but felt like some things were left unfinished. It makes me wonder why some things were in the book to not be wrapped up with a conclusion. I felt like James was a stubborn idiot most of the book and I can't recall Aileana ever saying outloud that she loved James. One other frustration would be how she came to love him when he was cruel to her most of the book then boom! She magically loves him?I did like James mostly when he wasn't being an idiot, and I loved his brother Ca [...]

Awesome highland yumminess! I devoured the book in a day and would have enthusiastically given it 5 stars if not for the weird twist near the end that completely threw me out of the story. After some serious confusion, I was able to enjoy the last of the book but it never did fit just right again.

“Bound to the Highlander” is the award-winning debut novel of Newfoundland author Kate Robbins. Earlier this year Robbins won the Tampa Area Romance Authors (TARA) award for this first book in her Highland Chiefs trilogy. This is the kind of book you want to curl up with on a cold, stormy day. Nothing compliments a fuzzy blanket and blazing fire like a historical romance. The characters are well developed and engaging. James MacIntosh is everything a romance hero should be – strong, virile [...]

Two stubborn fools that I wanted to slap half the time. Lots of misunderstandings which led to both of them thinking the worst of the other. At least that did not drag on a ridiculous amount of time. The story, itself, was good.

This is a 2.5-star book for me.* * *Disclosure: I received this review copy from the author. Thank you to Kate Robbins for the opportunity. Yes, this is an honest review.* * *The basic premise of Bound to the Highlander is this: Lady Aileana's uncle, the Laird of Clan Chattan has died under mysterious circumstances, leaving Aileana alone to fend for herself. Aileana believes that she is expected to marry her distant cousin, Gawain, but it seems her uncle had other plans for Aileana.James MacInto [...]

"Bound To The Highlander" by Kate Robbins is the first debut book in The Highland Chief's Series and let me tell you for a first book this book totally dazzled me from start to finish. They say indifference, not hate, is the opposite of love, and there’s not a trace of indifference in BOUND TO THE HIGHLANDER, the debut novel by Kate Robbins. The book won this year’s TARA Award for best historical romance, and it’s easy to see why. The settings, clothing, and politics of Medieval Scotland are impeccably described. (A ruthless researcher myself, I'm a stickler for historic accuracy!)The book's heroine, Aileanna Chattan, learns upon the death of her beloved uncle and guardi [...]

I don't typically read nor enjoy Scottish historicals, but I made an exception in this case and I'm glad I did. The setting is in the late 15th century (nice change) and there is a nice blend of historical intrigue to mix with the romance. The hero, James MacIntosh, is a highland chief who is a nice blend of warrior and gentleman, is tied to Aileana Chattan, the niece of a neighboring clan. Their romance is intense without being overbearing. Aileana was strong without being annoyingly "plucky", [...]

More than a satisfying tale of lust and loveSet against the political backdrop of the monarch, James Stewart in 15th Century Scotland, debut author, Kate Robbins, delivers a fast paced love story with historical depth and snappy dialogue sure to warm the cockles of your kilt! Did I mention the fabulously sexy hero, James? No need to have a fireplace on to read this work! The unique thing abut Bound to the Highlander is it's not your average romance. It's got lust and romance, anticipation and di [...]

This is the first I've read by Kate Robbins and it definitely won't be the last! She brings you a story set during the reign of King James in Scotland when clans were feuding and picking sides some for and some against him. You have Aileana Chattan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her Uncle Iain who loved her dearly and saw her educated and given the right to make decisions at his side. James MacIntosh is approached by her uncle to marry her and signs a contract. When her un [...]

Set in the Scottish Highlands in the 15th, this historical romance is about Ailenna Chattan who is forced to marry after her Uncle Ian died suddenly while hunting with his clan. She knew she'd have to marry but she thought it would be her cousin Gavin only to discover that Uncle Ian betrothed her to Laird James MacIntosh of a neighboring clan! The problems were many, Jamie's reputation as a womanizer and his support for the new king of Scotland where Ailenna comes from the old school and old way [...]

I adored this book! The characters are all rich and well developed, not just Ailenna and James, both of whom I really enjoyed and rooted for throughout. She is young, but also smart and tough. He's sexy and determined. Their romance was definitely steamy, but sweet as well. I loved the inner voice of the main characters, too, and how they react to certain situations with sarcasm, snark and humor. The secondary characters are well done too. I'm hoping to see a book featuring Gwen and Calum at some [...]

Bound to a highlanderIf you enjoy highland series and worthy storytelling, this novel is for the romantic. As the maiden becomes hot and cold about the arranged marriage she gets kidnapped and off to the races we the readers go again. But, this time she the maiden falls and losses her memory a little twist in the normal storytelling plot of a Scottish Highlander's stories. I've have read to many romance [...]

Scottish adventure! I have finished reading Bound to the Highlander, which is Ms. Robbins's debut novel in The Highland Chiefs Series. I loved her two main characters James, Chief of the MacIntosh Clan and Aileana Chattan, a strong-minded woman. This romance is well written and fast paced. I loved that Ms. Robbins chose to set her story in the Highlands of Beautiful Scotland. She was very descriptive of the surroundings. If you love a great Scottish story, you will enjoy it! I recommend it. Let [...]

  • Shirley kendall

well writtenLove Highland books. Just completed a series from another author. While storyline is similar the approach to the characters are much different. Will certainly continue this series.

  • Lesleyanne Ryan

Romance, mystery and political intrigue. I generally don't read romance but I was taken in by how the romance was seamlessly woven in with the fascinating political realities of 15th Century Scotland. A solid read.

  • Karen

This was a perfect relaxing read for me. Many of my ancestors came from Scotland and I always feel an affinity for these stories set in the time when the Clans were such a strong independent part of Scotland.
