I gave this book an overall good rating, despite its being tedious at times. The book shows how careful an historian Richard Carrier is. I am not qualified to give a critique of these pieces as far as history is concerned. Richard Carrier is a careful and clear writer, so the book maintained a high quality of text. Other than this I don't have a lot to say about this book.

Some really interesting Gems but a lot of dry academic stuff as well. The first half of the book was interesting the the second half got a little too abstruse and delving into classics minutia to hold my interest. Still there is even interesting stuff to make it worthwhile especially in the first half of the book.

Still, an excellent read especially since it's a good group of essays showing how history is done and done right. If you want to know the difficult subject that is the historicity of Jesus and difficulties in New Testament scholarship, I recommend both "On the Historicity of Jesus" and the present volume.
