I crazy-loved The Letter so much, that I was thrilled to see the author going backwards in her books and writing the love story of one of the married couples who were secondary characters in her first book. I do hope that she will continue further backwards and write the love story of Aubrey and Katie who were secondary characters in both books. This was an absolutely delightful book filled with pain and tragedy giving way to warmth and humor as the damaged characters move forward with their liv [...]

Funny, Charming & DELIGHTFUL, I was really pleasantly surprised by how great the this story was. ALL the characters are a delight. I ESPECIALLY LOVED the Hero Chase's Mother. You don't get to meet her till about half way through the book, but she is SO worth the wait. Chase the hero is a dream of man. Thoughtful, compassionate, funny and extremely loving. Claire the heroine is also a joy she has had a tough life but hasn't let it break her spirit. I don't want to say too much but the boys (t [...]

I loved Sandra Owens novel The Training of a Marquess. Both the Hero Chase Warren, the Earl of Kensington and the Heroine, Claire Tremaine, the widowed Marchioness of Derebourne, were very likable individuals. The other characters in the book twins Harry and Bensey and Lady Ann, Chase's mother were rememberable. The old Marquess of Derebourne has died and the heir to the title and property is now Chase Warren, the Earl of Kensington. He is a man haunted by ghosts, of his first wife who died, kno [...]

I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance novel. What attracted me most to the book in the first instance was the idea that both the heroine and the hero are not first loves – both were widowed, and Chase, at least, has loved and lost. This struck me as a fresh and brave starting point for a love story, and I was intrigued to see how the author would craft a love story for two people with a good amount of experience in matters of the heart.Plus, as a horse lover, I couldn’t resist a story [...]

This is the second book from Sandra Owens that I read, although the plot precedes her first book, ‘The Letter’ in which we already met the hero and heroine as a married couple. In this book we get to see how our heroine won her hero.As in her first book, Ms. Owens continues to woo me with her prose, witty dialogue and wonderful characterization of major and secondary characters. Everything in this story was flawless, from the first to the last page. I really liked the slow and steady relatio [...]

Seldom do I read a book that hooks me on the very first page, much less the very first line, but that's exactly what happened when I read Sandra Owen's The Training of a Marquess. I laughed, I cried, and I enjoyed every minute of Claire and Chase's story. I don't know if Chase is an Alpha or Beta, but he quickly became one of my favorite Regency heroes. The Training of a Marquess is one of the most original Regency romances I have read in a long time. If you love Regencies, this one is a must re [...]

Another wonderful story by Sandra Owens. She has a magical way of creating a beautiful loving story. This book is beautifully written and about two people learning to love and trust becoming one. I have to say the secondary characters in this book are fantastic. The children; Henry and Bensey are wonderful and Lady Anne will have you laughing a lot. I look forward to reading more from this author. She is fantastic!

Wonderful book. I read this in 2 sittings, which is rare for me to have a book to capture my attention just so. The writing flowed beautifully, the love was more than just lust and sex as you find in so many books out there - not that I complain about those books, I read them as well, but this one touches your heart more than usual. Endearing. I can't wait to read her other book - "The Letter". I am very glad to have discovered this author.

I loved this book. As soon as I finished it I wanted to read it again. I loved the characters which were supremely developed, the setting and plot lines. I wanted a change from the contemporary romances I normally read and found this book on my kindle, downloaded probably during a free day. I wasn't disappointed. It was a magnificently written book and I'll be reading the other stories written by this author. Well done, Ms. Owens.

This was a really good historical romance. I loved Chase and the twins. They were great together. I loved the romance between Chase n Claire it was an enjoyable love story. Chase mother was also a nice secondary character. I like Owens writing and look forward to reading more from her. I would recommend it's a fast and fun read.

Great characters and a very entertaining and romantic storyline. My only complaint is I wanted the epilogue to be longer. I was so invested in the characters I wanted to know more about their happy ending than just a short paragraph.

Hadn't read a "regency type" book in a while and had been looking for one to readThis one was fantasticReally liked it. only complaint is the ending was a little rushedother than that. was a great read!!!

This was a very enjoyable book! Chase was upset over his wife dying, but found two little boys on the street to help. Claire's husband dies and Chase is now taking over the estate and Claire wonders what will happen to her and her horses. Chase's mother was funny and a great ally to Claire. The two boys were sweet.

  • Barbara Longley

I found this book very clever and thoroughly entertaining! Chase and Lady Claire were perfect together, and there was plenty of chemistry between them. The secondary characters added greatly to the overall story, and I could not put this book down until I'd read the last page!

Claire is a widow who must face the fact that she will soon be removed from her home and also she will probably lose the horses she has trained and made into desired mounts for gentlemen of the ton.Chase is also widowed. He has inherited a title and an estate and now must find a home and some sort of income for the “poor” widow. Chases's wife was in love with another man until the day she died and he has never overcome that sorrow. Both of these characters are bright and charming and attracti [...]

Historical English romance with a widow and a widower that recently loss their first born children with the simultaneous deaths of their partners who had never loved them. So this is more then a little bit second chances at love because they both had never truly had that in their lives until they met each other. Lady Claire Tremaine, the widowed Marchioness of Derebourne lost everything the day her 2 week old son and husband died and will now get thrown out of her house because her deceased husb [...]

This is a wonderful Regency book. I liked that the story is very different form the usual tropes of the time. Both are widowed and when Chase inherits the earldom he has to make sure Clair the Marchioness is settled. Except that Claire is pretty, and headstrong. Both in that sense are independent and lived for a long time without a significant other. They are longing for a family and companionship. Claire and Chase have both lost children and so the story come together very nicely. Lady Anne his [...]

Well it was entertaining. However that is probably the only good thing I have to say. I didn't care for the setting, characters or the plot. I was in the mood for something like this, otherwise I would have never read this.
