Simpled honestbut also healingI fall in love with Lele character, so naive and mature at the same time.Time will healbut do we still have time to heal our earth?!It is not always talk about relationship between two peoples but also the connection that give reaction to environment. So pure wisemetimes a freedom is just mean to be freeNo matter what reasoneedom not need to be protected.e it will lose the beautiful meaning of freedom itself.TIE

The main reason I picked this book up, was because James grew up in the same city as I did --Swan Hill. Exact same place, and I couldn't help being fascinated. So here I start my review. This book is the definition of innocence. We have Lelee, who's a girl who loves the sea as her own home and is beautiful, intelligent and witty. But she also has flaws, which I love most about this book. She suffers from dyslexia, a kind of syndrome where the brain can't register any literacy of any kind. The mai [...]

It is set where I last holidayed in Provence in the south of France, and I like James Aldridge very much, his book the Broken Saddle was excellent. He has a very crisp journalistic style like Roald Dahl; oh those were the days of writers! Looking forward to it, seems mysterious already.Didnt quite finish it; but set after the second world war, a disabled boy meets the divine mermaid-like girl Lelee who is involved in smuggling of contraband off the coast of the south of France.Gives a real sense [...]

This is a curious book - it has quite a slow beginning, with a long prologue that gives us some historical detail about the characters we are going to meet. I didn't feel as if the prologue was necessary - pretty much all of this information comes out anyway during the story. But the rest of the book is beautiful. Aldridge's style has an old-fashioned feel to it, and the story of this long hot summer in Provence, with the damaged boy, the wild girl and all the other fascinating characters, is en [...]

I really loved this book. The mystery of Lelee and the treasure captured my imagination from page one. The golden maroo and the beautiful knitted blankets brought colourful images to the novel, brightening the story. The male characters suffering after the accident made the story so interesting because all I wanted to know was whether the sea would save his crippled body. I would definetely recommend this book to people who like imaginative storylines, with mystery and some elements of danger.

I couldn't finish this. I read over half of it and gave up.From what I remember (it's been a few years since I tried reading it):Boy goes to France to stay with another family. Family contains girl who loves freediving and swimming in the sea. Girl is supposed to be an interesting, fiercely independent, wild, free spirited child; actually just comes across as annoyingly spoilt and full of herself.

For me, this was a totally magic book: the sea, Lelee and her relationship with the sea, the house at Cap Ferrat, the food, ALL the characters. It is a golden book, a holiday in the sun. Of course, a lot of it wasn't exactly subtle, but Hey, let's not sweat the small stuff

The writing was pretty clear, the plot was straightforward but it dragged on and on. I lost interest a couple of times while reading this one.
