A humbling story of a great hunter who loses touch with his gift when praise means more to him than feeding his people. The elders advise getting help from the loon spirit and once that connection and debt was repaid, all was restored. We are using this series of loon books to learn about money, the loon, Canada, the native tales on the loon and in this wonderful tale, the quality of humility.

This gorgeously illustrated and told story by the late and great Dale Auger tells the story about not taking your gifts for granted. What a timeless book, a modern day fairy tale and teaching story all wrapped up into one. Also, please purchase his coffee table book: The Art of Dale Auger (Heritage House Publishing). It’s breathtaking and completely inspiring for any aspiring artists

A children's book wonderfully illustrated. It conveys the way traditional people lived and their relation to their environment.

Great story about a Cree hunter who becomes proud about how well he can hunt and communicate with the animals and the lesson he and his people learn about respect, humility, gratitude. Great pictures too.

A nicely written and illustrated Cree story about how a young man's pride makes him lose his way, and how we need to honor and respect the gifts that we are given. There are Cree phrases embedded in the texts with the English alongside so it is easy to understand. There is a glossary at the back of the book as well. The illustrations are attractive as well. A good picture book option for middle primary and up. Its a little long for my K classes.
