Ooo. Seriously. In love with this book. Historical romance AND it's paranormal. I mean. Reader girl *swoon*. Reaper's Vow was an interesting read. It takes place post Civil War with a group of men and women who had been tortured, turned into werewolves against their will and used as assassins until they escaped to try and create some sort of lives for themselves. Interesting, right? So the quick of it is that Cole--a human--has spent months tracking the Shadow Reapers who have his baby cousin Ade [...]

First Reads Reviews - Reaper's Vow by Sarah McCartyI signed up to win this book through the GoodReads First Reads program largely because I thought it was interesting to pair a female shifter with a human male. It's not a pairing that is often shown, because the implication is that the shifter female would then be stronger and more powerful than the man, and I'm all for complicating traditional gender roles. I should have looked harder at the cowboy hat on the cover, though, because that definit [...]

For awhile now I've felt that Sarah McCarty's series were lacking in actual plot-lines. This book confirms it. I always held out hope that she would return to the Promises series which was exceptional. My issues with this book involve zero character development (no one was interesting) and the utter lack of reason for not disclosing what issues result from a human being in a pack. Also, all the "council decides all" BS. I don't know of any good guys that would insist on keeping a child around be [...]

Sarah McCarty returns to the Shadow Reaper series with her latest installment, Reaper's Vow. Readers have waited a long time for this one and won't be disappointed. McCarty takes the Civil War era and turns it on it's ear by inserting paranormal characters who are forging a new life for themselves, after a tragic beginning. History and the paranormal mix in this book to give readers a unique reading experience that they can't find too many other places. McCarty's Reapers are just what the doctor [...]

OH MY GOD even better than the 1st one in this series. With this one you will visit with most all the leads from the 1st book. The only and I mean only problem with this one is that there's a two month lap in the story and it really doesn't tell you how the village came about.Really hope Sarah McCarty gets going with #3 real SOON!! Are you reading this Ms. McCarty?? hint, hint ;-)Here's the write-up from :A breed of werewolf soldiers engineered to kill on command, The Shadow Reapers went rogue a [...]

I won a copy of this book via a FirstReads giveaway. This series has quite an interesting storylinea blend of historical western fiction and paranormal romance. I did not read the first book in the series, but the author gave enough backstory that I didn't feel lost. My only complaint is that I'm still not entirely sure what a Reaper is. Every time Cole had a question (about Reapers' abilities, their history, the laws that govern them, etc), everyone answered with an "I don't know". Obviously, th [...]

Waited a long time for this book. If you like cowboys and paranormal get this series. This is book two and it starts off where Reaper's Justice ended. You have a human alpha male who seems to have a little something extra in his blood. Plenty of action, great sex scenes ,very well written book. I have missed Sarah McCarty books and it looks like she is back. Can not wait for next in this series.

  • Gh Lover

This was an interesting plot twist with a human male struggling with making the choice between remaining human or transitioning to a supernatural being. My trouble with the book wad I couldn't connect with the male. I never gained a good understanding of why he felt the way he felt or behaved the way he did. I struggled to finish. I just need more definition of the characters I guess.

  • Darcy

I liked the first book, but this one just isn't doing it for me. I find myself still confused on what a reaper is and don't really care how Cole is treated Addy and Jones. Jones saved Addy, so I don't understand why Cole seems to hate Jones. In the end this one just isn't for me.

  • Anne

It was good, but I would have liked to see something happen with Cole that didn't happen. So it felt unfinished, to me.

~ 3 Reaper Stars ~ Reaper's Vow is book two in Sarah McCarty's Shadow Reapers series. I held out hope that this one would be better then the first and I would be able to get into the historical paranormal romance, but I just couldn't. I pushed myself to finish. Some questions where answered for me from book one Reaper's Justice, but more question arose. It felt like the author is not sure on what direction or conflicts she wants to have in this series with her Reapers. I was left feeling confuse [...]

Originally reviewed for The Book VixenIn a Nutshell: I enjoyed this historical paranormal with a strong romance and an ending I didn’t quite see coming. Why I Read this Book: I adored book one in this series with an OCD heroine and her lone wolf hero. I had to wait FOR-EV-ER for this book two. What I Liked: I liked just about everything in this book. Cole and Miranda were good leads and their romance full of passion but also emotional intimacy. I love when Cole shows Miranda that life is worth l [...]

Reaper's Vow is book two in the shadow-reaper series. To start off with I didn't read the first book and I feel that it is necessary to get a better understanding and not be so lost in places. We start off with Cole being ambushed and getting into a fight with a number of wolves, and it's not very clear which wolves are attacking him or that there are factions among them.Cole! What can I say, he was sexy and honorable, a strong Alpha. It came threw in how he treated Miranda and Wendy, and his he [...]

Reaper's Vow reads like a supernatural version of Hell's Eight-lite as influenced by seeing those movies where Danny Trejo comes back from hell. Except the Shadow Reapers' primitive natures are not offset enough by their attitudes about protecting women and children. It was impossible to ignore the fact that Isaiah, Gaelen, Dirk, Blade, etc. all know that women and children are being abused in their encampment, but they do absolutely nothing about it. Actual wolves protect their pack better than [...]

While I enjoy a good bodice ripper, I was not sure of how I felt about winning this book, especially since it was book two (I am not sure why I even entered the contest, except I am sometime silly in that way), but I was very pleasantly surprised with this book. It was engrossing, I honestly didn't want to put it down, and different. I am a huge paranormal fiction fan and love almost anything to do with vampires, werewolves, ghouls and ghosts; especially with a bit of sex thrown in for flavor. B [...]

Second book syndrome does not apply to Reaper's Vow as for me it was more of a stand alone type of read than a continuation of the first book.We do of course get to catch up with Addy and Isaiah but even with that this book was all about Cole, Miranda and Wendy.I was happy to however ambiguously learn more about the Reapers, happy that Cole finally found himself caught in an emotional snare despite his best efforts and even more happy that there seems to be enough of a lead in with the ending ep [...]

*** I won this book on GoodReads First reads***The overarching larger story of werewolves in America was very interesting and think it has great potential. The smaller story of Cole and Miranda was fair. I wish more time would have been devoted to the larger story and I felt too much was devoted to the love story. For example, it was established Clark was a bad guy but the story kept revisiting his character and bad qualities. Also, I found it frustrating as a reader that many times important as [...]

OK hard to rate this, I was waiting soooo sooooo long maybe my expectations got too high? Most of the book was pretty good, just the choices Cole was making at the end didnt ring true to his character- well for my perception of it obviously. and the price WTF $10.00 really?? sooo, over priced and expectations underwhelmed and over waited arrrgh so long in the coming so, just dissapointed after loving the first book in this series :(

  • Dr susan

I have to admit Reaper's Vow disappointed me. I loved Reaper's Justice, but Cole's attitude really irked me, and the majority of the book is from his point of view. Hints are given of story lines to come with no clear indication which characters will be involved. The world is fleshed out a bit more, and we get to see more of Addy and Isaiah. McCarty's trademark snarky humor was less evident in this book.

  • Kerry

Great story about how some rules just don't make any sense. Being part of something doesn't mean that the rules are for everyone, especially when made out of ignorance. Does she fight for herself and her man or does she comply and probably lose her life anyway? It all comes down to finding your feet and not giving in to the wishes of others but to the man you love and want to stay. This author can write! great read, can't wait for the next book! Highly recommended.

Sarah McCarty is a delight to read and listen. I was a little confused at times with this audio. It felt like there were some items I've missed. But for the most part this was a good audio book. I didn't care for the ending because it left too much open. I guess I'll have to wait for more to come out in the series.

  • Karen Nichols

The second book in the series takes it a little further and gives us a bit more insight into the world that humans made and how it came about.Cole finds his mate but wants his humanity. The females get fed up being property and take things into their own hands toward the end.I'm hoping there's more in her imagination for follow-ups.

  • Vicki

This was book 2 in series. Addy from Reaper's Justice cousin Cole is following Addy and Isaiah to bring Addy back to his ranch. When he finds them he find a valley full of Reapers and Miranda.Miranda is reaper and Cole is human and the struggles they have and the struggles the reapers have trying to form a safe village. Makes me wish for #3.A very good series.

Incredible joyrney! Amazing!!!Sarah McCarty made an intriguing, sizzling and action packed page turner on this one. I hope there will be more books from this series and others. Can't wait to read them!

  • Varied Books

Ugh just an awful ending. It's a beautiful HFN but it wasn't what I wanted. (view spoiler)[ H stays human w/ a human lifespan unlike h who remains reaper w/ a much greater lifespan. Their memories together will sustain her after H dies. (hide spoiler)]

  • Gizzie

Another good read from Sarah. I have not read a poorly thought out book yet and am glad to see that she is extending her writing in the paranormal. I enjoyed this book and will continue to read the series.
