10/08/2016 Audio Book Review4.5 Surly Cajun Loving Stars!!This is definitely one of my favorites in the Buchanan-Renard series!! We get plenty of action, suspense, and romance. I love John Paul Renard, I was instantly intrigued by him when he was introduced to us in book #2 Mercy, he’s a burnt out ex-military and ex-government agent with a bad attitude and has an aversion all U.S. government agencies. The thing he wants more than anything is to find Monk a paid assassin (who was also introduced [...]

★★★★½ (This is a review of the audiobook.) I don’t know why I’m enjoying JG’s Contemporary Romances more on audio than I did when I read their dead tree versions, but I am. I’m one of those people who was vastly disappointed when she stopped writing Historical Romances. However, I ♥loved♥ this one; it held my attention though-out. Nicely narrated by Joyce Bean.

Mediocre romantic suspense. I'm getting real tired of heroes and heroines falling in love within a couple of days just because they have good sex. It's called lust people, not love. Also, I had a hard time buying the whole story line of the hit man falling for Jilly and doing some of the stupid stuff he did. The first night they sleep together, he tells her all about himself. He also rushes what he's doing to please her. You don't get to be a top notch hit man by rushing. As for telling her who [...]

3.75 or 4 stars. Solid narration by Joyce Bean. Good story. Not as good as the prequel, Mercy, but better than most of Garwood's contemporary novels. Happy to see John Paul Renard again -- he was great in Mercy.Glad he didn't blow hot and cold, but knew he wanted Avery soon enough. No stupid misunderstandings, either. Decent suspense with a few surprising plot twists. Garwood's most vivid character is the antagonist. That sociopathic, seductive siren brings to mind a cobra -- I felt unwillingly [...]

This is my favorite so far out of the Buchanan series. Filled with action/adventure, romance and suspense, it was a perfect book IMO. John Paul is ex-military and hates all that is related to the government. The one thing he wants more than anything is to find the paid killer Monk and catch him before he kills anyone else. When John Paul first sees Avery walking into a spa, he thinks she's nothing more than a California fake blond. He thinks she might be able to lead him to Monk's whereabouts, s [...]

This is my third or fourth time reading this book. It is a part ofJulie Garwood's Buchanan series which is her first time moving away from the historical romance genre into contemporary romanic suspense. I read many of the reviews written by other members and it seems that a lot of the reviewers were complaining about the very characteristics that define the genre. I also think that readers should be forwarned that some of the inside jokes and other references may be lost on you if you don't rea [...]

"Killjoy" is the story of John Paul and Avery.Avery has had a difficult life. Within three days of her birth, she was abandoned by her psychopath and sociopathic mother, and then taken care of by her grandma Lola and aunt Carrie. When she is 12, her mother Jilly and her boyfriend return- something which leads to the murder of her grandma and leaves Avery almost on the deathbed with permanent scars. This motivates her to get a job in law enforcement where she works as a FBI typist. When her now suc [...]

Pardon me while I stifle a slight yawn. The blurb billed this as a gripping novel of unrelenting suspense hmm, perhaps I slept thru those scenes. Few surprises with predictable plot. Main character Avery seldom demonstrated usage of her so-called razor-sharp mind, but scored an A+ in the PITA department. Sad, really, when this reader felt no reason to cheer her on as she compulsively blundered about I did, however, occasionally feel the urge to B-slap her. Working as an expert crime analyst for [...]

The third book in the Buchanan-Renard series by Julie Garwood. Avery Delaney was abandoned by her mother and raised by her grandmother and aunt. When she was eleven her grandmother died and Avery was left for dead. Now Avery is employed by the FBI as a crime analyst. She goes on vacation to meet up with her aunt, Carolyn Salvetti, at an exclusive spa in Colorado. But when Avery gets there she is told the reservations were all canceled and her aunt is nowhere to be found. There Avery meets John P [...]

4 ½ stars. A good time. Good romantic suspense. I didn’t want to stop reading.BUT, I did not like:After they had sex, she said no more sex because she felt they should distance themselves because they would split eventually. Is that believable? Do people really do that? We like each other now but we should not enjoy each other?I also wanted a little more time spent in Monk’s mind (the bad guy). One example: how did he find Avery when she was in the motel?I wanted to know what was in Ann’s [...]

Fairly good book, but I was disappointed a bit in it after being excited to read John Paul's story.I liked the plot of the story. It was interesting and kept me wanting to read more. The tie-in to Garwood's previous romantic suspense "Mercy" was cool. And I like the character continuity she has had through these minorly connected books. What disappointed me was the romance and sort of the depth of the characters. John Paul was fascinating character created in her last book. I couldn't wait to rea [...]

Though the romance portion started slow, it heated up quickly. However, the suspense/mystery element of the book was better than most.I also liked that some of the other characters - namely Aunt Carrie - had bigger parts. It was very enjoyable and I can't wait to move on to Slow Burn

  • Katherine

This was a really good suspense/mystery romance. From the very beginning I was on the edge of my seat, wondering what was going to happen and what direction it was going to take. Can't wait to read more of this series. I am now going to pass this on to my Daughter for her to read.

  • Miss Kim

This is my least favorite of the Buchanan family series. The story wasn't as interesting as the other brothers.

  • Dawnnie

Took me awhile to get into this story. But halfway through the book, I can't put it down. There are so much action going on and it's nice to have some romance thrown in as well.

The story of Avery and John Paul, who meet when John Paul tracks an assassin he's been hunting to the same spa she and her aunt were supposed to spend their holidays. Avery's aunt is missing, and Avery is determined to use all her skills from analyzing data for the FBI to figure out where she is.John Paul soon realizes that their goals align, since the assassin he's after is responsible for Avery's aunt's disappearance and the two form an uneasy partnership to solve the case.

  • Gogol

To be fair this book felt pretty dated. But there are lots of fantastic books written way back which do feel dated but it doesn't deter from their quality. And this one did. The plot seemed silly, the interaction between people seemed odd. I am a big fan of Linda Howard, and in comparing the two authors I think Julie Garwood falls short.

  • Magpie67

Great series Why did I wait so long to get book three read when I made the mistake of reading number four??? Not sure. I loved the premise of the tough, analytical girl working in the basement of the FBI. Her attention to detail was intriguing including finding the clues for the Shakespearian heists. Well done Julie Garwood. I would have liked to see more of Avery's mind when came to analyzing FBI data. I was almost a touch sad, that the story didn't move forward with this angle, but I did enjoy [...]

In this third book of the Buchanan-Renard series, we have John Paul Renard, Noah Clayborne and Monk returning from the earlier book, Mercy. John Paul has tracked Monk to Aspen, Colorado, a year after he wreaked havoc in Louisiana. Meanwhile, Avery Delaney is trying to find her aunt, Carrie Salvetti, who she was supposed to join at a spa in Aspen called Utopia. John Paul and Avery connect in the lobby of the facility as they both are on the hunt for the same people for different reasons. It doesn [...]

KILLJOY has more than enough action to keep thriller fans happy and has just enough romance to placate romance fans. Julie Garwood has created a female Hannibal Lechter, a woman so evil that readers will root for her downfall. The action is nonstop, with the couple's escapades spanning several states while enduring cliff jumps, swollen rivers, a forest sniper, and dodging the FBI team dispatched to protect Avery. Their survival depends on their own instincts, ingenuity, and stamina and a little o [...]

  • (Eirene) Sleepless Romantics

Well, the main villain was terrifying. So there's that. Overall, the book was pretty enjoyable. It had an interesting mystery and while there was a lot of things going on, it was paced out pretty well. I'm not normally a fan of villain POV's, and I still wasn't for this book, but I guess it was a good way to characterize the villain? (I'm not giving the name up, I wasn't expecting it.) I just wish there was less time on them and more on Renard and Avery. They were adorable when they were banteri [...]

I was excited to pick this book up, thinking I would learn thriller story construction from a talented author. Instead I found myself swept along in a compelling story. I thoroughly loved this book. The main characters were tough and believable. Their actions were so well motivated that I felt like I knew them.I read all of Garwood's historicals and was devastated when she made the jump to thriller writing. However, I now see the tenderness that initially drew me to her work in her thrillers. It [...]

My oh my, the female villain, Jilly Delaney, is a sick one! This story gives me the chills. The ending left me slightly baffled; I hope this is the end of Jilly. She freaked me out so bad, I don't ever want to read about her anymore ever again. Like, ever. While I like John Paul and Avery, I'm a little bit on the fence about them as a couple. I guess I don't care much about them to care. I was more hooked in the storyline than I was with the romance. Having said that, I do enjoy their chemistry. [...]

  • Shelley Lawrence

Great, interesting story. Easy to follow, but clever. It captured my interest on page 1! I love how Ms. Garwood uses some of the same characters from the previous book; makes it much more engaging. Now I'm off to find her next.

  • Stephanie Tuell

Such an awesome book! I can't believe I waited so long to read it. So many twists and turnsd the end! I look forward to reading more of her work.

  • Jackie Lane

Review pending.I am enjoying each book in the series more and more and love seeing characters from the other books.

  • Susan

Not my favorite of her books, but it kept my attention.
